We next constructed a computer simulation of COM crystal growth based upon a geometrical representation of the COM crystal. By varying the speed of growth on the various planes of the crystal, we identified the circumstances that matched our morphological studies of COM crystals grown in the presence and absence of citrate.
We proposed that citrate blocks growth of the (010) face by interlocking into the growing latice, thereby inhibiting further addition of calcium and oxalate.
