Learning: Language acquisition
One of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the CLOCS team is the goal of language acquisition. Language acquisition begins around 18 months of age and continues throughout the person’s lifetime. Vocabulary and grammar acquisition is most active between the years of 3 and 5, where astonishingly an individual can learn about 20 new words per day. Our language acquisition simulation consists of a networked dictionary and various grammar algorithms to associate word patterns and identify new vocabulary. The context of these word associations are stored as unique "thoughts" which can be compared and compiled to other such associations. Three immediate applications of this technology are improved language translation, context-sensitive searchable databases, and automated correspondance.
